TSU Beats Idaho in Home Opener
HOUSTON, TX (H&PE Arena) -- Fans and alums of Texas Southern University basketball need to open their eyes and realize Coach Tony Harvey's 2009 - 2010 squad may be good this season.
TSU improved to 1 and 1 on the young season with a solid 72 to 65 victory Sunday night over the Idaho Vandals.
I drove from College Station (#16 Texas A&M beat #6 Duke in women's action) and caught the final 6:50 of the Tigers - Idaho ball game. The Tigers were leading 60 to 50 at that time. However, the Vandals pulled within one point thanks to a 13 to 4 run over the next four minutes; but, the Tigers did not fold.
"Obviously, you've got to give some credit to Texas Southern," said Idaho head coach Don Verlin after the game. "They did a nice job forcing us into some turnovers and taking advantage of our mistakes down the stretch."
The Tigers head to Colorado this Wednesday, November 18, to face the Buffaloes. Tip is set for 8pm.
