Rockets Acquire David Andersen from Atlanta

HOUSTON, TX -- The Houston Rockets have acquired the draft rights to center David Andersen from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for cash and future considerations.

Andersen, 6'11", 245, was originally selected by the Hawks with the 37th overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. Andersen averaged 11.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this past season playing for FC Barcelona in Spain.

"David has been a winner with every team he has played for in Europe," said Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey. "He is a very well-rounded player who possesses good offensive skills and a very good shooting touch for a big man. David is a versatile post player who should fit in well with Coach (Rick) Adelman's system."

Andersen, 29, is a native of Carlton, Victoria, in Australia. He spent four seasons in Italy with Virtus Bologna (1999 - 2003) where he won the 2000 - 2001 Italian National Championship as well as the 2001 and 2002 Italian National Cup. Andersen joined Mens Sana Basket Siena for the 2003 - 2004 season and helped capture another Italian National Championship that season. Andersen then played for CSKA Moscow from 2004 to 2008 where has a part of four Russian National Championships. While with CSKA Moscow, Andersen also helped the Russian National Cup in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
