McGrady has Shoulder Surgery

The Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen reports Tracy McGrady had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder Friday.

Last October during the Rockets' Media Day, McGrady mentioned he would need to have surgery on his shoulder during the upcoming offseason; so, this surgery is not a surprise to me at all.

Ironically, the Rockets did not send a press release noting the surgery because the team's media department is very, very good notifying the media about news items like this one.

I'm still waiting for McGrady and the Rockets to announce a timetable for his return to the team following the microfracture surgery on his knee. When McGrady appeared on Jim Rome's radio show near the start of the NBA Playoffs, he said he felt good and everything was on schedule for his return to action. However, I have not heard any specific timeframe for his return.

The recovery time following microfracture knee surgery is about 10 months; so, any talk about McGrady's being ready for the start of the 2009 - 2010 season seems WAY off to me.
